As per a CNBC-TV18 report, on January 11, the Government of India signed an agreement with Bharat Biotech to receive 55 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin at a price of Rs 295 per dose. As per the report, the Indian pharma company will be directly providing its coronavirus vaccine to 12 states. The report further stated that the process will be finished in two days by January 14. It further observed that beginning January 12, dispatches will start from Hyderabad. In stage 1, Bharat Biotech will be providing 38.5 lakh doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. In stage 2, it will be providing 16.5 lakh doses.
Talking about the cost of dose, each single-dose vial will cost around Rs 295+ taxes. Taking taxes into consideration, each shot of Covaxin will cost around Rs 310. Apart from this, earlier in the day, the Serum Institute of India (SII) received a purchase order for Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield coronavirus vaccine from the Indian government. Covishield is being made by SII in India and will be available for Rs 220 per vial. This will consist of 14% GST in India. For the huge coronavirus vaccine rollout, the central government has signed a pact to procure 11 million doses of the SII COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine rollout is ready to start from January 16.
In recent times, Covaxin maker Bharat Biotech has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. One of its volunteers died, however, it is yet not clear whether the person died due to the vaccine or due to some poisoning.
