E-commerce giants Amazon, Flipkart sold 15 million smartphones in festive sales in the country. As per many research reports, this will lead to more than 36% of the total probable sales for October-December. In 2020, overall, 128 million smartphones are likely to be sold in India. In the last quarter of 2020, about 41 million smartphones are likely to be sold. Both Flipkart and Amazon are running their first festive season sale of the year. As per the research reports, Samsung and Realme have gained the most. Apart from this, Micromax is also likely to show some gain with its comeback.
Flipkart witnessed growth of 320 per cent
Not only this, Apple and OnePlus are not far behind, they too have had an upper hand due to the heavy discounts they offered. During the festive sale, Flipkart has recorded twice the growth in consumers going to the mobiles category. Coming to the premium segment smartphones, it witnessed a growth of 320% percent mostly driven by Samsung, Apple and Google phones. On a year-on-year basis, Realme has witnessed twice the growth in sales. Also, mobile phone retailers have begun using hybrid models to sell their products on account of the impact of COVID-19. To sell their smartphones, they are making use of apps such as Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook.
This new kind of sales is likely to contribute 6% of total smartphone sales this year in India. Recently, Indian Government has announced a package to encourage is employees to spend on non-essential items. This is also going to benefit the smartphone category.
