DRDO successfully flight tests SMART

On Monday, India’s successfully flight tested the Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART) from Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha. All the targets of the mission, including missile flight up to the altitude and range, the release of torpedo, separation of nose cone and deployment of Velocity Reduction Mechanism (VRM), were met perfectly in the flight test. For the success of the mission, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). SMART is going to be a remarkable technology breakthrough for stand-off capability in anti-submarine warfare. The Organisation has efficaciously flight tested the Supersonic Missile assisted release of Torpedo.

In his tweet, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and other participants for this noteworthy accomplishment. As per DRDO Chairman Dr G Satheesh Reddy, SMART is a game changer technology demonstration in the anti-submarine warfare (ASW).  SMART is a missile supported release of lightweight Anti-Submarine Torpedo system for ASW operations for far behind the range of torpedo. Today’s event was monitored by the tracking stations (Electro Optical system, Radars) along the telemetry and cost stations including down range ships.

Numerous DRDO laboratories have developed the technologies needed for SMART. They include RCI Hyderabad, DRDL, ADRDE Agra, and NSTL Visakhapatnam. DRDO had fruitfully tested Laser-Guided Anti-Tank Guided Missile earlier this month. On September 22, in continuation with the successful trials done, the test was conducted from MBT Arjun at KK Ranges (ACC&S) Ahmednagar. In terms of defence strategies, this has been a major milestone for the country.
