Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the travel and hospitality sector in India continues to struggle. However, as per an OYO report, India has emerged at the top as the most booked country. This has been possible because of the easing of worldwide restrictions and unlocking of the economy. According to a report titled ‘OYO Travelopedia 2020’, India was the most booked country. It further stated that this year, Delhi clocked in the most bookings across the world. This OYO Travelopedia is the annual year-end travel index. This consists of breakdown of actual bookings, enquiries, cancellations, and searches that took place on the platform of OYO.
As per the report, the year started off on a happy note with January being the most travelled month. However, due to government’s precautionary lockdown, April witnessed the most cancellations. It further stated with the unlocking of cities, December has emerged as the month which is witnessing the most demand around the holiday season.
Where did India desire to travel?
When it comes to pilgrimage destinations, Puri emerged as India’s top pilgrimage destination. It was followed by Tirupati, Shirdi, Vrindavan, and Varanasi. Talking about beach spots, Goa has retained its popularity, followed by Vizag, Kochi and Pondicherry. Among business travellers, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad ranked as the most popular cities. When it comes to leisure hotspots, Goa, Kochi, Jaipur, were travellers’ favourite local leisure hotspots. In December, so far more than 17 lakh people have checked-in over the weekends. The December 12 weekend emerged at the top with the most bookings thus far.
