In a major development for Nation’s manufacturing industry, one of Apple’s premium phones could be assembled in India. The conglomerate might decide to assemble the iPhone 12 pro in India. According to some inputs, ANTEL or Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency suggested that at least the iPhone 12 pro model could be manufactured in Brazil’s Foxconn units along with China and India. In the ANTEL documentation, the name of one Indian Foxconn facility in the southern state of Tamil Nadu was also mentioned. Besides the Indian Foxconn facility, the documents also mention numerous others Foxconn facilities in Brazil and China which are also supposed to be the facilities that could be used for assembling the iPhone model.
Chennai to be the Apple manufacturing hub
Foxconn’s facility at Hitech Special Economic Zone is situated on the Chennai-Bangalore highway in Tamil Nadu’s Kanchipuram district. Foxconn which is also ceremoniously known as Hon Hai is one of the conglomerates’ biggest contract manufacturers. Apart from that, some of the selected iPhones get assembled at the Chennai facility of Foxconn at present. This year only Foxconn Chennai started assembling the iPhone 11 at the unit. Apart from this, two other Apple manufacturers which are Wistron and Pegatron recently got licensed from the Ministry of Electronics and IT. Besides functioning as one of Apple’s biggest contract manufacturers, these manufacturing units are also supposed to manufacture and assemble mobile phones and other gadgets of different brands in the country.
By taking the decision to assemble the phones inside the country, the American Electronics giant is able to cut the heavy import duties that is levied on the assembled phones which are imported in the country. This decision could also help the tech giant to keep the price of the iPhones less in India and this means attracting more customers as well.
