PUBG relaunch in India: Battleground Mobile India

As per a recent announcement by Krafton, South Korean video game developer, the Indian version of PUBG mobile will be called Battlegrounds Mobile India. In India, PUBG is the most famous battle royale game. This game will be available only in India and will offer a multiplayer gaming experience on the mobile phone.

This comes after the ban of original version of the game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) Mobile in India in September 2020. Tencent, a Chinese Multinational conglomerate firm, had published PUBG in India. After this, PUBG Corporation had informed that it would no longer sanction the game to Tencent Games in India.

The launch date of the game is still unknown, while the company has revealed the new logo today. This new game will come with exclusive in-game events like outfits and features. Apart from this, it will have its own esports network with big tournaments and many major leagues. In a press release, Krafton has stated that the game would be launched as a free-to-play experience on mobile devices.

PUBG Corporation, in November, had declared that it would establish an Indian subordinate and introduce a new specific version of the game in India. In terms of number of users, India is said to be the biggest market for PUBG. This is why its parent firm Krafton also invested $100 million as it aims to revive business in the India.

With more than 175 million downloads, India is the largest market for the game. As per SensorTower data, this is almost a quarter of the worldwide downloads. Outside of the manufacturing sector, the investment by PUBG Corporation and Krafton will be the largest by a Korean company in India.
