On Thursday, bookings for Tata Safari were officially opened which will begin at ₹30,000. Tata Motors has announced that Safari will be unveiled on February 22. From the same day, deliveries of the seven-seat SUV will begin. The new Safari from Tata Motors aspires to build on the ancestry of the iconic Safari from days gone by. However, essentially it is a three-row version of the Harrier. Seat configuration can be chosen between either six (with captain’s seats in the middle row) or seven with the vehicle looking to be the car of choice for those with larger families.
It is the first Tata car to get Electric Parking Brake function. Apart from this, it gets a new colour treatment for the seats. The SUV is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine which churns out 170 PS and has 350 Nm of peak torque. Talking about the base XE variant, it is equipped with all-disc brakers, ESP with Hill Hold, dual airbags and roll-over mitigation system. The XM and variants above it get multi-drive modes and touchscreen music system. Further, the top XZ variant gets terrain response modes, six airbags, xenon HID projector headlamps and a subwoofer and powered driver seat.
As per Tata, the preliminary response to the Safari has been positive. It was confident that the SUV will appeal to a large section of SUV buyers. Talking about its price, once officially launched, the new Safari may be priced between ₹15 lakh and ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom).
