Of late, Google has decided to modify the way search results look on users’ mobile devices. As per Google, its revamp is concentrated on simplifying search in a way people get results faster and more easily. Google gave the information in a January 22 blog post on Google’s The Keyword named, ‘A Google designer takes us inside Search’s mobile redesign’. Aileen Cheng, designer who headed the visual redesign stated in the blog that they began with organising web pages. He further stated that there was so much diversity in the types of content and information they have to help make sense of. Google explained that the modification would bring information into focus and make text easier to read.
In its effort to make text easier to read, Google has added larger and bolder text together with the results and section titles. The update also consists of Google’s own font. Cheng stated that bringing consistency to when and how we use fonts in Search was important too. This helps people analyse information more efficiently. Apart from this, after Google minimised use of shadows, the search results will take more of the width of the screen. Google stated that it would pinpoint more vital information deliberately so that users don’t miss out on any due to distraction.
Cheng stated that they were providing a ‘Googley’ feeling in the redesign by adding roundness to icons and imagery. Once again, the company points out its focus is on content and images. Soon the update will roll out.
