Urjit Patel, the former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has been named as an additional director of Britannia Industries. He has been named for a five-year term, beginning March 31, 2021. “The Board of Directors of the Company accepted the appointment of Dr. Urjit Patel, as an Additional Director of the Company at their session held today 31st March 2021,” the company has said in a disclosure to the exchange.
Urjit Patel served as the central bank’s 24th Governor from September 2016 to December 2018, but only for a short time. Raghuram Rajan had stood down. He was a deputy governor while Rajan was governor before becoming governor.
Shaktikanta Das, the current governor, is Patel’s successor. Patel is presently the chairman of the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy’s governing board. He also serves on the Army Group Insurance Investment Advisory Committee. Patel spent 15 years in the private sector prior to entering the public service. During the 1991–94 transition phase, he worked for the International Monetary Fund’s India Desk.
